Hi! I'm Sara Tutor

MS, RDN, CLC, REALTOR

Welcome to The Domestic Tutor, my name is Sara! I am a wife, mother, dietitian and real estate agent living in Southeastern Michigan. I am so excited to add blogger to this list!

Food and Nutrition

I attended the coordinate program in dietetics at Eastern Michigan University. Following graduation I spent three years as a clinical dietitian. While I enjoyed helping patients, I also missed the team dynamic and fast paced environment of restaurants that I had previously worked in while going to school.

Eventually I realized that I wanted to change directions and took a new role in the hospital I as a food service manager. I loved my job and spent the next ten years managing various food service operations within our institution.

Over the years I obtained specialty certifications, which I encourage dietitians to do. It not only gave me an opportunity to enhance my knowledge while studying for the exams, but also gave me a boost of confidence and a way to demonstrate my competence in those areas. I have held a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician certification (CNSC) through the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) as well as a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) through the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice (ALPP). Lots of acronyms!

After about 8 years of taking the long and winding road to completion while working full time with two small kids, I finally graduated with a Master of Science in Human Nutrition at EMU in 2018. I currently hold a full time position as associate director of patient food service.

I have been active in the Michigan Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics including being elected to the nominating committee and volunteering for the membership committee. Additionally, I have been a member of the Clinical Nutrition Management Dietetic Practice Group and have been awarded multiple National Quality Process Improvement Awards (QPI from the CNM DPG of the AND 🤓).

Real Estate Sales Person

At this point you may be wondering why and how I am also a Realtor! Well, I am sure that anyone in the world who may be reading this can relate to the fact that some crazy things happened in 2020. For me, becoming a Realtor is a crazy yet awesome thing that came out of 2020.

My husband, Steven Tutor, is a Realtor and we made the decision to make it a joint adventure. It has not only diversified my skillset but has given me a new avenue to help others and support our family.

Steve and I are both licensed in Michigan and work for Signature Sotheby’s International Realty. We are happy to help our Southeastern Michigan neighbors, but if you are in need of a Realtor then we are happy to provide a referral for you. Feel free to reach out through my contact information.

Blogger

I have always had an interest in writing and a fascination with blogging. After over a decade of reading various food and DIY home blogs I am so happy to finally start a blog!

While I was working on branching out into real estate and diversifying my career,  I came across a couple of communities of dietitians who are savvy and willing to share their knowledge and experience in blogging with other dietitians. It makes me so happy whenever I see a dietitian presence in nutrition information online because there is so much misinformation from noncredible sources out there.

I’m looking forward for this blog being a place where all of my interests from nutrition, food, feeding babies, and managing a household all come together to help others. I love to learn about many things and I hope that you can learn along with me as we navigate life!
